A pioneer of Cayman art since 1969, the time of his arrival in the Islands, Charles Long started off as a professional painter with creating artwork for the cover of Northwester magazine. An artist with exceptional creative prowess, his paintings today capture the fancies of art critics in the national and international art-circuit. While the local people acclaimed his wonderful artworks after he had painted a mural on the interior wall for Radio Cayman, true honor of the nation was bestowed upon him with the National Gallery featuring a retrospective of 72 of his paintings in 1992, spanning three decades of his career as an artist. On the other hand, international acclamation followed suit, with his art exhibitions taking place at Carifesta and the Biennial of Painting in Santa Domingo. A lot of his work has been taken abroad, giving international fame and grandeur to the Caymanese art he represented.
